8. Service charges

One of the most pressing issues arising from the development of higher density homes is the impact on affordability of service charges arising from flatted developments with communal areas. This section examines the limited good practice that is available. It is an aspect of higher density development that requires careful consideration at feasibility stage, if the homes are to be affordable to lower income families, whilst delivering sufficient revenue to enable services to be delivered to a good standard.
