East Living to open Ongar's first ever young parents supported scheme

Railway Meadows

Works are almost complete on East Living’s young parent’s supported housing scheme in Ongar- the first for the region. The scheme opens in January 2011 and aims to help young parents through their critical early days of parenthood by providing housing and support to learn life skills and build a better future for their family .

At Railway Meadows, young parents aged 16-24 will have access to a range of support resources to learn to live an independent and healthy life, including setting up and managing their home and finances and joining networks of support groups and services.

East Living will work in partnership with local services to enable young parents to complete further education or training to gain qualifications and skills that will help them get a job and  provide their family with financial stability.

The 13 self contained flats will be offered to those within the third trimester of pregnancy (after 32 weeks) or within one month of the birth of their child. They will also need to be on the housing register for Epping Forest, Brentwood or Uttlesford Districts.

East Thames Project Manager Greg Adesina said: “Railway Meadows is the stepping stone that will help young parents take on their new responsibilities and come away equipped with the skills, knowledge and opportunities to help them build a positive future for their family.

“The support and resources they will receive will make a real difference to the lives of their friends, family and community’’.
