Paper Mill Place wins Waltham Forest Design Award
Paper Mill Place, our largest new build development in Waltham Forest was crowned ‘Best Residential Scheme’ in the borough’s annual design awards.
As the first major housing development to be built on a former industrial area in Walthamstow the award recognises the scheme’s importance in delivering 323 well designed and much needed affordable homes to the borough.
What has been created at Paper Mill Place is a fully integrated neighbourhood with a varied mix of different types of homes and tenures pepper-potted across the development and supporting a range of household sizes, ages and incomes.
With just under 80% of the scheme offering affordable homes, Paper Mill Place provides homes for local people and helps to address the high affordable housing need in the area.
Initial feedback from residents at Paper Mill Place is that they are very pleased with their home layout, communal areas and amount of storage space. Their homes are well made and beautifully finished and being warm throughout very little heating is required.
All houses have private gardens, and the flats above the ground floor have balconies. The development has been landscaped to provide both rest and play areas, using planting and lighting to create a calming space to be shared with the local community.
The scheme was the result of successful working partnership between Telford Homes, East Thames, London & Quadrant, The Homes and Communities Agency and Waltham Forest Council.
Sidney Yanney, the project manager for the scheme collected the award and said:
“We have a great record of developing new homes in the borough and Paper Mill Place is an outstanding example. It is beautifully designed, environmentally friendly and offers attractive living space. It makes us proud to know that residents are very happy to be living here and doubly proud to have been recognised for the quality of the homes created here.”
