Olu / Construct Your Career
Olu has been celebrating since coming second in the national Youth Builder Awards 2009 and securing a job in construction. Olu was nominated for the award after taking part in our Construct Your Career training programme last year.
Our Construction Co-ordinator Rachel Bennet was so impressed by Olu’s dedication to the construction training course that she nominated him for the Youth Builder Awards 2009.
She said: “He was so focused and determined. He was there everyday, he was early and he was really reliable.”
Olu, who now has a construction job with a housing association in West London, said the Construct Your Career course has really helped him. “The course changed things for me in lots of ways. It was a good opportunity for me because I’ve always been interested in construction but not had the skills. It gave me the skills and I’ve been able to use them because they’re practical.”
In fact Olu has put his new expertise to a lot of good use, decorating his new place and even surprising his mum by redecorating her house while she was away.
And winning the award is the icing on the cake. “It was a good boost for me. I didn’t have a lot of direction before but winning that award gave me confidence. I believe more in myself now and I’ve realised that if I work hard I can achieve anything.“
